The Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) hosted “Motions of Brush and Ink - Calligraphy Exhibition of Ho Lai Sim and her students” in the exhibition area of Team Building from 16 October to 31 January 2019. This exhibition is the very first calligraphy exhibition with pieces of works from both the mentor and the students. The altogether 30 pieces of works being exhibited include regular script, clerical script, running script and cursive script. It is hoped that through the exhibition, the cultural life of students can be enriched, and students' enthusiasm for calligraphy will be enhanced too.

Since ancient times of China, the art of calligraphy have been a tradition, attracting a huge number of enthusiasts and became a continuous trend. A piece of calligraphy work consists of technique of writing, manner of diction, and calligraphy structuring. These three aspects of calligraphy must be properly combined and organically blended. All those calligraphy works, one after another, with different calligraphic styles are made when infusing with the sentiment, personality and aesthetic orientation of the artist. The sensation is thus expressed by those factors, where comes the saying, calligraphy is the painting of one’s heart.

The public is cordially invited to appreciate the works of teachers and students at the exhibition and to appreciate the beauty of calligraphy. Ho Lai Sim is currently the director general of Macau Association of Chinese Calligraphy and Arts, member of Macau Yu Ün Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, and member of Hou Kong Seal Association.

IFT has been dedicated to promoting the development of Macao’s cultural and creative industries. Apart from constantly providing a variety of cultural and creative courses, IFT has also pursued cooperation with local artists and designers to organise exhibitions in recent years, in an effort to promote local cultural and creative industries, and to provide a platform for local artists and designers to demonstrate their art pieces.
