In March 2018, under the leadership of the then-Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, IFTM, Macao Government Tourism Office, Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Higher Education Bureau and 9 higher education institutions (University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Academy of Public Security Forces, Macau University of Science and Technology, City University of Macau, University of Saint Joseph, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, Macau Institute of Management, and Macau Millennium College) formed the Alliance for Developing Macao into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tourism Education and Training Base and signed a cooperation agreement. Based on the principle of “Cooperating with Each Other for Resource Sharing and Common Development”, the government departments and higher education institutions participating in the Alliance have jointly participated in and promoted the work of the Alliance, established a long-term and close cooperative relationship, and leveraged their respective advantages to promote the construction of the Tourism Education and Training Base for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
With the support of the Macao SAR Government and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Alliance hopes that its members can jointly develop a proper annual work plan, implement training and exchange programmes, strengthen cooperation with other cities in the Greater Bay Area in tourism education and talent training, promote local education to a new stage of development, and finally achieve the vision of integrating tourism development and enhancing tourism competitiveness and quality of tourism education in line with the national development plan for the Greater Bay Area.
Goals of the Alliance
To build a tourism research platform with academic institutions in the Greater Bay Area to conduct annual research on regional tourism development, provide theoretical basis and cross-year comparative data for tourism development in the Greater Bay Area, and help policy departments and tourism enterprises formulate plans on regional tourism collaborative development and product market development.
To open up more places for students from the Greater Bay Area to pursue higher education in Macao and continue to build partnerships with education institutions in the Greater Bay Area to provide more exchange places for each other's students.
To raise the awareness of teachers and students of regional economy, tourism development, the prospect of employment and entrepreneurship, and “One country, Two systems” by increasing the exchange activities between teachers and students in the Greater Bay Area.
To establish cooperative relationships with relevant provincial and municipal tourism departments, public institutions or industry associations of the Greater Bay Area, organise training courses with the assistance of mainland departments and institutions, continuously improve the tourism management and service quality of the Greater Bay Area, and help build the tourism brand of the Greater Bay Area.
To provide a broader international exchange platform for students and staff in the tourism industry in the Greater Bay Area and broaden the international vision of elites in the industry.
