Institute for Tourism Studies, Macao, established in 1995, offers degree and professional programmes in a wide range of tourism-related disciplines such as hospitality, tourism business, heritage, events, retail and marketing, leisure and entertainment, sports and recreation, creative and cultural studies, and culinary arts. “The 2008 Award Ceremony of Medals and Titles of Honour of the Macao SAR Government, People’s Republic of China” was held in January 2009, IFT was awarded the Medal of Merit for Tourism in recognition of its significant contributions in advancing local tourism development. In 2000, IFT became the first educational institution to be granted the TedQual Certification by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). In 2003, IFT was invited by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) to be the founding member of the Asian Academy for Heritage Management (AAHM). This consortium networks institutes of higher learning throughout the Asia-Pacific region that are engaged in the research and teaching of heritage conservation and cultural institution management. |

Taiwan Hospitality & Tourism College, founded in 1989, offers programmes in Food and Beverage Management, Hotel Management, Travel Management, Leisure Management, Chinese Culinary Arts and Western Culinary Arts. The programmes put emphasis on internationalisation, professionalism, nativism, innovation and service-orientation, encompassing both local characteristics and global vision. THTC is the most innovative higher education institute of the kind in Chinese Taiwan. It was ranked as the first among higher education institutes by Ministry of Education and the first in the area of international campus by Vision Magazine. THTC also co-hosted Asia Pacific Tourism Association Conferences in 2006 and 2010. Its membership to the Network of Asia-Pacific Education and Training Institutes in Tourism (APETIT) in 2010 further promotes its international standing and helps facilitate resources sharing. |

Goals and Objectives
To enhance the professional knowledge and practical skills of participants about tourism, hospitality, and local cultures in Hualien; to cultivate those participants who are interested in devoting themselves in this industry; to help them understand the content of the tourism and hospitality programmes as well as the trends of future development; to promote and popularize professional practicum, with an aim to aid potential high calibers in their career planning for the industry. | |
To strengthen the learning impact through the experience sharing by professional and senior lecturers from various related fields. | |
To enhance participants' knowledge about Hualien through practical sessions on Hualien’s ecological regions and leisure activities, with an aim to enhance tourism development in those fields. | |

- Undergraduate students of higher education institutions from different countries; recommendation letters from home institutions proving current registration status are required.
- Good command of English; as the medium of instruction of this programme is English.
