The Institute for Tourism Studies ranks high in 2019 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

In the newly-released 2019 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, the Institute for Tourism Studies takes the first place among universities in Macao, the 3rd in the Greater China Region, the 5th in Asia and the 30th globally in terms of the subject “Hospitality and Tourism Management”. The Institute regards the rankings this year as recognition for its academic achievements. It will continue to support academic research and improve the quality of education and academic research.


The Institute for Tourism Studies has always attached great importance to academic research and actively encouraged faculty and students to carry out academic research projects. For three consecutive years, the Institute has ranked in the forefront of the QS World University Rankings by virtue of the subject “Hospitality and Leisure Management”. In 2019, it ranked 33rd among universities around the world, 5th in Asia and 3rd in Greater China. It is also the first United Nations World Tourism Organization UNWTO.TedQual institution in tourism education. In 2017, it became the world's first higher education institution to pass the International Quality Review (IQR) from UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). The results in the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects not only stand for recognition of the Institute, but also encouragement and inspiration. In the long run, the Institute will continue to support various academic research and contribute to the development of the tourism industry in Macao and the world.


The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects released by ShanghaiRanking is assessed by a series of internationally comparable and objective academic indicators, which measure the performance of global universities in related disciplines, including the total number of papers, category normalised citation impact, the proportion of international collaborative papers, the number of papers published in top journals, and the number of authoritative awards received by teachers.


The 2019 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects covers 54 disciplines of five major areas: natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. It is targeted at more than 4,000 universities around the world, with over 1,700 of them from 86 countries and regions appearing on the final list of various disciplines.
