Hospitality professionals discuss with IFT Evening Degree students “Hotel VVIP Journey Service”
6/25/2019 1756/024REL/RP/19

IFT held on June 24 a special talk with the theme “Hotel VVIP Journey Service and Digital Social Media Promotion”, for its Evening Degree and Diploma students. The activity was aimed at enriching the students’ learning experience at IFT.

The talk featured 2 guest speakers from the local hospitality industry sharing their experiences and know-how with students. They were: Mr. Steven Choi, executive manager of limousine services at a local five-star hotel; and Mr. Danny Chao, a senior digital marketing expert.

Mr Choi discussed how to plan a transportation service for high-end travellers – also known as “very, very important persons”, or “VVIPs”, in the hospitality industry jargon. He added such a service – unlike normal transportation – needed to be tailor-made to meet the special needs and demands of each guest.

Mr. Chao, for his part, shared the importance of digital marketing in hospitality, and how to use social media for promotion purposes. The digital marketing expert also discussed the pros and cons of partnering with online travel agencies, and of using e-commerce for sales.

Participating students said they had benefitted greatly from the talk. They also hoped that IFT would continue to organise similar activities, in order for them to have a firmer grasp of the sector’s latest developments, thus putting them in a better position to plan their respective career paths in this field.

IFT emphasises a variety of approaches to teaching and learning. Arrangements are made for undergraduates – whether on daytime or evening degree programmes – regularly to attend special talks with industry experts, in order to improve students’ knowledge of operations and of development trends in relevant sectors.

Evening bachelor degree programmes at IFT are taught in Chinese and cover the following programmes: Hotel Management; Tourism Event Management; and Tourism Retail and Marketing Management.
