The Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) is collaborating with the Galaxy Entertainment Group in hosting this year’s 4th annual Tourism Education Student Summit event (TEd Summit-2019) on 29 May. This full-day event is an opportunity for IFT’s top 50 graduating BSc students to share their research findings with industry leaders and the community at large.

This unique event is an opportunity for our brightest stars to engage with industry in a discussion about the future development of tourism and hospitality within Macao and the Greater Bay Area. IFT views the training of young researchers, as a strategic feature of its programmes. The skills required in the research process – critical thinking, problem identification and solution, analysis and deduction, etc. equip new graduates with a skill set for managing future unknowns.

It is through events such as TEd Summit-2019 that strategic stakeholders can preview the next generation of future hospitality and tourism leaders, who have their finger on the pulse of the current state of affairs within the Macao tourism industry.

The TEd Summit welcomed Professor Xu Honggang, Dean of the School of Tourism Management - Sun Yat-sen University to deliver an inspirational keynote address on sustainable tourism. As a key researcher and expert consultant to the UNWTO sustainable tourism monitor centre as well as top adviser in setting national standards for cities of leisure, ecotourism attractions, wetland tourism and wellness tourism in China, her wealth of experience and scope of knowledge adds value to this year’s event. For the industry keynote the Summit invited Mr. John Sloane, Assistant Senior Vice President, F&B Operations and Culinary of Galaxy MacauTM to share insights with participants. He is one of a select few A-Grade Judges for International Culinary Competitions, and has himself won multiple culinary awards. He has served World Association of Chefs Societies as Continental Director for Asia, and up until recently was Vice President of WORLDCHEFS.

Among all the papers presented by IFT students, the Best Paper Scholarships were awarded to future tourism & hospitality leaders from IFT.
