4/29/2019 1063/008REL/RP/19

In order to meet the demand of the tourism industry for high calibre talents, the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) plans to launch four Postgraduate Diploma, four MSc and one PhD programmes for the new academic year after approval is obtained from relevant authorities. These programmes will help Macao to develop into the "tourism education and training base of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area", cultivate high calibre talents, and improve the service and management capacity and the overall competitiveness of the destination.

After the Higher Education System of Macao came into effect, IFT has been actively preparing for the new programmes, and will launch them according to enrolment situations from academic year 2019/20 onwards. The four Postgraduate Diploma programmes are in "International Hospitality and Tourism Management", "Tourism Management", "Hospitality Management" and "International Food and Beverage Management"; the four MSc programmes are in "International Hospitality Management", "International Tourism Management", "Hospitality and Tourism Management" and "International Food and Beverage Management"; and one PhD programme in "Hospitality and Tourism Management".

The Outline of the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area released in February has put forward that Macao should use Macao’s competitiveness in tourism education and training, and tourism development experience to develop the city into a tourism education and training base of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With this positioning, IFT plans to launch postgraduate programmes to help enhance the l competence of tourism professionals in Macao and the Area. It is very convenient for residents of different cities in the Greater Bay Area to travel to and from Macao. These programmes will be a good choice for them. People from different countries and regions are also welcome to study at IFT.

The education quality of IFT has won international recognition, the achievements in Macao’s tourism development are obvious to all, and Macao has been designated as a “Creative City of Gastronomy” by UNESCO. All these factors are conducive to enhancing IFT’s academic level, cultivating more high-quality talents, and assisting Macao in developing into the world tourism leisure centre and the tourism education training base of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The new programmes will be open for online registration from May 1 to 13, with scholarships offered. For details, please call 2856-1252 or scan the following QR code.
