IFT invited Scholars from Sun Yat-sen University to deliver Public Lecture in “Pearl River Delta Regional Tourism Development & Cooperation”

Institute for Tourism Studies hosted a public lecture in “Pearl River Delta Regional Tourism Development & Cooperation” on 26 June at the Auditorium of IFT. Four prominent tourism scholars from Sun Yat-sen Univeristy (SYSU) were invited to deliver the public lecture and attracted participants from academic and the industry.

        The public lecture covered topics on:

“Zhuhai Tourism Development and Impacts”

by Associate Professor Zhang Chaozhi

        Professor Bao Jigang is the Assistant President, Dean of School of Tourism Management and Director of Centre for Tourism Planning and Research of SYSU. Aside from teaching the undergraduate and postgraduate programme, his main research interests are tourism geography, tourism planning and tourism impact. Professor Bao has led a number of both local and overseas research projects and made many publications in tourism geography, planning and development. He is an expert in tourism planning.

        Professor Peng Qing is the Deputy Dean of School of Tourism Management, SYSU. Professor Peng teaches management courses in both undergraduate and postgraduate programme. Her research focuses on hotel management and human resources management. She has written a collection of books and articles in hotel and food and beverage management. Professor Peng has received various academic awards including the “The Ten Most Influential Educators in Tourism and Hospitality in China 2008”

        Professor Xu Honggang, Deputy Dean of School of Tourism Management, SYSU. She teaches “Introduction to Tourist Scenic Spots” and “Tourism Research Methodology”. Professor Xu’s research includes system dynamics, tourism planning and resource management. She has taken part in many research projects about tourism development and is a specialist in tourism planning.

        Associate Professor Zhang Chaozhi is the Coordinator of Tourism Planning and Management Programme, School of Tourism Management, SYSU. He teaches tourism and heritage courses and his main interests in research are heritage tourism, tourism planning and management and tourism operation and destination management. Prof. Zhang specialises in heritage tourism and is a member of Asia Academy for Heritage Management, ICCROM.

        IFT has rich experience in co-hosting executive development programme and public lectures with many world-renowned higher institutions. This is the first time that IFT invited scholars from Sun Yat-sen University to deliver the lecture and had great response from the industry. IFT and SYSU are planning another joint seminar in September on the topic “Tourism Integration among Macao, Guangdong and Hong Kong”. IFT hopes to open up more cooperation opportunities with higher institutions in the Mainland, to encourage both cultural and academic exchange to further advance the teaching and research standard.
