Influenza

Influenza

Influenza(Flu) is a highly contagious disease caused by different types of influenza viruses. These viruses known to infect humans can be classified as type A, B and C. Among them, type A (H1N1 and H3N2) are more common. The peak season of flu in Macao is from January to March and from July to August each year.

Flu viruses are spread mainly by directly or indirectly contact with the patient's respiratory secretions or droplets. Since pathogens can survive in the environment for some time, good sanitation must be maintained to reduce the spread of influenza in schools.

Influenza symptoms in beginning stage include fever, cough and other respiratory infections. The symptoms may deteriorate rapidly. Severe cases can cause pneumonia, or even death. Children, elderly and patients with chronic diseases or lower immunity are more susceptible to such infection.

Prevention:

·      Vaccinate for seasonal influenza;

·       Keep our body warm;

·       Follow good personal hygiene habits, such as frequent hand washing, covering mouth when sneezing or coughing, using tissue to blow nose, and dispose of the tissue properly;

·       Practice healthy lifestyles to increase body resistance to disease;

·       Keep the environment clean and maintain good air ventilation; Avoid crowded public places with poor air circulation;

·      If you develop Influenza symptoms, please wear a mask and seek medical advice promptly.
