Beware of Souvenir or Snack containing Cannabis

As laws governing cannabis were relaxed in some countries/regions, the risk of purchasing souvenir containing cannabis and violating the laws of the visitor’s origin countries get higher. Please pay extra attention to such items purchased in those regions. Please also note that cannabis still post serious health threat to human bodies.

Cannabis use is still illegal in most countries. Only in some countries, such as the Netherlands, the Czech republic, Canada and the US states of Colorado and Washington, cannabis use is legal. Regardless of the background and reasons these countries legalized cannabis, we should still regard cannabis as a drug that can do serious harm our health.

The dangers of cannabis:

  1. Symptoms of psychosis include hallucinations, such as seeing or hearing things that do not exist.
  2. Cannabis is also addictive, causing mental problems that increase the risk of mental illness, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
  3. Cannabis abuse can make people dull in thinking, confused in memory, impaired in cognitive function, and lead to mental decline.
  4. Long-term cannabis users are most vulnerable to damage to their lungs and upper respiratory tract functions, as they smoke in a similar way to cigarettes.
  5. Cannabis causes tachycardia, and patients with original cardiovascular diseases are prone to induce or aggravate symptoms.
  6. Reduce resistance to bacteria and viruses and increase the risk of infection.
  7. The number of sperm in men's semen decreases. Women's menstrual cycles become confused and even stop ovulating.

    At present, cannabis is still a drug in Macao. Illicit import of cannabis or any products (including any food products and drinks) that contains controlled cannabinoids (such as tetrahydrocannabinol, or "THC") constitutes a criminal offence.
