Guidelines for Submission of
Research Notes

Format & Style

Research notes should have the same rigor, style and tone as feature articles, and have a clear contribution to tourism and hospitality research. Notes are different from articles in that the contribution either has a narrower audience, is more technical, reports of works-in-progress, or comments on previous THeR articles.

Articles should be accessible to non-specialists while demonstrating a sophisticated treatment of the theories and methods under review.

Manuscripts must be written in English and typed in the American Psychological Association (APA) publication style. All text should be double spaced and with a font size of 12 pt. Articles should be 1,000 - 2,000 words long.

Manuscripts should follow this format:

Cover page: title, corresponding author's name, affiliation, e-mail address, full postal address and telephone and fax numbers. Respective affiliations and addresses of co-authors should be clearly indicated.

Subsequent pages: text; endnotes; references; tables and figures. (to be embedded within the text).

All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the notes of the manuscript. The list of references should be arranged alphabetically by authors' names. References should be given in the following form:

1) Journals: Blake, A., and T. Sinclair (2003) Tourism Crisis Management: US Response to September 11. Annals of Tourism Research 30:813-832.

2) Books: Salvatore, D. (2004) International Economics (8th ed.). New York: John Wiley & Sons Inc.

3) Other Publications: Where there is doubt include all bibliographical details.

Acknowledgements and information on grants received should only be included on the first page.

Footnotes will not be accepted. Instead, endnotes should be submitted as a consecutively numbered list following the last page of the notes.

Authors are responsible for copyright clearance and/or referencing of any secondary materials submitted to THeR.  Any material published in THeR will be publicly accessible.  Copyright of the published articles will belong to THeR.

Review Process

Manuscripts are evaluated by our editorial committee solely on the basis of the submitted text, the clarity of exposition on the problem/issues, and/or cogency of alternative approaches.  First authors will be informed about the decisions within three months of submission.
