The Macao Visitor Profile Survey

The Macao Visitor Profile Survey (VPS) is conducted and published quarterly and annually by ITRC with the support of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO). In addition, ITRC publishes occasional special reports on related themes that are of public interest. The VPS supplements general visitor data and information regularly provided by other government agencies such as the MGTO, the Census and Statistics service (DSEC) and the Macao Public Security Police Force by (a) providing greater detail and analysis of behavioral and psychological variables, and (b) providing cross tabulated data analyses and presentation of practical use to managers and decision makers in tourism and hospitality related organizations. Essentially, the VPS identifies and analyzes segments across different and multiple variables and tracks how different visitor segments in Macao evolve over time. The VPS also provides occasional qualitative data that incorporates attitudinal and motivational data, among others.
Who are Macao’s visitors?
Which segment of visitors stay longer?
Who are not satisfied with their experience in Macao?
What distinguishes “gamers” from non-gamers?
Objectives of the VPS
To provide tourism policy and decision makers, planners and members of tourism and hospitality industry in Macao with up-to-date, regular and insightful information regarding the profile and description of visitors to Macao and how they evolve over time
To supplement general visitor (tourism) data currently provided by other government branches and agencies.
To provide a source of reference and information archive over time of the short- and long-term changes to the mix of visitors to Macao
To provide reference data to help evaluate the impact and effectiveness of destination management and marketing efforts employed by Macao as a whole or by individual tourism organizations (for example, event planners and individual hotels)
