Hugo Bandeira is one of the first products of IFT, from where he graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor degree in Tourism Business Management. By holding a Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits from London’s Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and is actively involved in teaching different WSET certificate levels at IFT. He is currently the Food and Beverage Manager at IFT and teaches F&B related courses as well as Wine Studies.

He graduated from the University of Winnipeg with double degree in Mathematics and Statistics and later received a Master's degree in Statistics from the University of Manitoba.

After working for a research company in Hong Kong, he became Lecturer in Quantitative Methods at IFT in 2004 and continued to provide professional services in statistics environmental. In the area of teaching, he has taught numerous courses at IFT. He currently teaches courses in business mathematics, statistics and Quantitative Methods for the Service Sector. In the area of scholarly research, his research interests are primarily in time-series analysis, with emphasis on tourism forecasting, quality control techniques and applications.

Simon Chan joins us as lecturer in our business management area, especially human resource management and organizational behavior. He has a BA(Hons) with first class honors and a Master’s degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is currently studying Doctor of Philosophy and expects to complete at the end of 2007. He has published research papers in Information System Journal, Personnel Review, International Journal of Innovation and Learning, Academy of Management Conference Proceeding, Asia Academy of Management Conference Proceeding, etc. His main research interests focus mainly on human resource information system, IT adoption, organizational behavior, leadership, and in particular training and development. His rich background of academic research capabilities will be of tremendous value to our students and research agenda.

Chan Chun Chin (Michael) worked in the tourism industry for ten years, mainly as a tour guide, before teaching tour guide courses and customer services at the Institute For Tourism Studies (IFT). He has co-ordinated and conducted many workshops about improving the service quality of the local tourism industry of Macao.

Vinita graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences and later obtained Master degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of New England. She also received a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Macau.

After graduation, she worked in the F & B department of a 5-star hotel. Later she decided to pursue her career in the education field and worked as a secondary teacher. Her teaching subjects were mainly Home Economics and English. She joined IFT as an instructor in 2002. She currently teaches courses in Food Hygiene, Nutrition and English.

Alexandor graduated from the University of Macau with a Bachelor's degree of Business Administration in Japanese Studies and Business Management.

Before joining IFT, he worked for the Institute as a part-time translator. His major work was translating materials of the tour guide courses. He changed to work as a full-time instructor at IFT in 2005. His duty is translating course material to Japanese, teaching Japanese and Mandarin language courses, and doing simultaneous interpretation from Chinese to Japanese. Aside from these, he is currently studying MBA to have a step forward to his academic goal.

After obtaining her first degree, she worked in the marketing department of a local bank for several years. Her managerial position equipped her with experience of handling different aspects of the marketing function inside a company, e.g. market research, new product launch, public relations, handling advertising media, etc. She developed her interest in teaching by taking up part-time teaching in some universities and institutes in Macao.

Apart from engaging in teaching in IFT, she has worked for several consultancy projects commissioned by a private company in Macao. Her research interests mainly lie in the areas of tourism marketing, tourist behaviour and tourism policies, etc. She has conducted several research projects on the travel behaviour of mainland tourists in China.

Dr Soo-May Cheng currently teaches strategic and service management in gaming, hospitality and tourism establishments.  She has published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Management, the Journal of Enterprising Culture, the Asia-Pacific Business Review, Casino & Gambling International, among others. She has supervised, researched and taught in executive, doctoral, masters and undergraduate programs. Her current research deals with cross-cultural, interdisciplinary and international comparisons of service quality, human resource management, and social impacts of tourism and gaming developments.  She is most interested in teaching and research with a practical orientation, so that she can draw on her previous work experience as a human resource officer, a journalist and a researcher prior to becoming an academic in various universities in Singapore, Australia, China, Hong Kong and Macau.

George graduated from the Institute For Tourism Studies with a Bachelor's degree in Tourism Business Management.

He joined IFT in 1997 as an instructor. His main teaching areas are Housekeeping and Customer Service. He is also a qualified MORS assessor in Housekeeping.

After completing a Bachelor's degree in 1994, Silvia attained a Certificate of Chinese Putonghua and Chinese Culture programme from the Beijing Language and Culture University in 1997 and finished a Post-graduate
Certificate of Education from the University of Macau in 2000. She is now pursuing her master programme in Tourism Management.

Before joining IFT she has been working as a teacher for secondary school over 8 years. She has joined IFT as a Mandarin teacher since September 2005 and taught numerous customized courses and short programmes at IFT and CCC. Besides teachings, she is also involved in preparing and developing teaching material for new courses. She currently teaches Certificate and Diploma Courses at IFT and some other short-term programmes at CCC.

Dino, as he likes to be called, lived in the United Kingdom for more than six years where he was awarded both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in tourism. His undergraduate research project looked at the feasibility of Harry Potter as a brand for Britain to attract tourists and his master's thesis studied how Macau's neighbours perceived the city, a cultural Janus or gambler's heaven.

He is responsible for teaching English to first years and Event Management to second, third and fourth years. As a student counsellor, he provides guidance and support for student-related activities, concerns and issues, gives advice to students on further studies, career paths and personal matters, as well as encourages and ensures the betterment of students’ professional development. 

Apart from his teaching and counselling duties, Dino supervises undergraduate final year projects and serves as a tutor for the ACCESS club where he offers support for students taking open examinations and students with language learning difficulties. He actively engages in academic and consultancy research projects and attends conferences on topics related to the tourism industry. His research interests lie in the area of festivals and events, business tourism, destination marketing and management, and tourism education.

Dr Hilary du Cros has a proven track record in tourism and cultural heritage management research, scholarship and teaching. She has worked in the tourism field for the past eight years and has over 20 years experience in cultural heritage management. Dr du Cros is an expert member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) International Scientific Committee on Cultural Tourism.

Prior to entering academia, she owned and operated one of Australia largest cultural heritage consulting firms, where she supervised or conducted over 250 projects, including a number of projects funded by the National Estate Grants Programme.

She has published over 70 scholarly books, journal articles, conference papers, monographs and book chapters. Eleven of these publications concern the management of World Heritage Sites. Her most recent books include: Cultural Heritage Management in China: Preserving the Pearl River Delta Cities (2007) with Y.S.F. Lee; and Cultural Tourism: The Partnership between Tourism and Cultural Heritage Management (2002) with Bob McKercher.

Mr. Oscar Ho has extensive business development experience in the Greater China region. He has worked for many leading companies marketing a wide range of products such as food and wine, hotel supplies, financial services, telecommunication and information technologies. Before joining IFT, he was the Program Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Commerce program with the School of Business in the Macao Polytechnic Institute. He is now coordinating the Internship Program and the Tourism Industry Experience Scheme (TIES) in IFT.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management and a Master’s degree in Marketing from the University of Macau. She has been teaching the subjects of management and marketing, and is interested in these fields, which in fact are interdisciplinary. She is currently teaching Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality, Organizational Behavior, Principles of Management and Tourism and Hospitality Marketing at IFT. By integrating and applying marketing concepts and management principles to tourism, her research interest lies in the fields of tourist behavior, tourism marketing, and management in hospitality sector.

Sharif Shams Imon has been teaching at the tertiary level since 1997. Before joining IFT in 2006, he taught as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, worked as the Academic Consultant for the HKU-SPACE Cultural Heritage Management Programme (CHMP) and taught in the Architectural Conservation Programme (ACP), Department of Architecture of The University of Hong Kong (HKU).

Dr. Imon is actively involved in the UNESCO and ICCROM training programmes on cultural heritage management in South and South East Asia. His recent works include development of training materials for Cultural Heritage Specialized Guide Training and Certification Programme for UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and a training manual on Cultural Tourism Sites Management (a UNESCAP project). On behalf of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Dr. Imon has carried out reactive monitoring and site evaluation missions to sites in Asia.

His areas of teaching and research interest include Conservation Principles, Cultural Heritage Management (Management Systems), Heritage Interpretation, Public Participation and Urban Conservation.

Yan has joined IFT as a full-time Lecturer since 2005. Currently she is teaching various courses of the Inbound Tourism Training Programme. Her research interest is in tourist behavior and cultural heritage.

Doris is a veteran English teacher of the Institute For Tourism Studies. She has been teaching English since she received her first degree in English Studies from the University of East Asia, Macau in 1991, and she joined CIEST (the former self of IFT) in 1993. Doris has great interest in curriculum design and language learning motivation. Over the years, with her colleagues, Doris has established the syllabuses for English and communication skills for Tourism and Hospitality. She also maintains the ACCESS club, which offers extra curricular activities for improving students?English proficiency.

Besides teaching, Doris serves the Institute and the students as a Student Counsellor. She assists in the betterment of students' college lives and gives advice to students on their studies, plans for further studies, career path and personal matters.

As the Regent for Languages, Doris coordinates language teachers of the Tourism College, ensuring all teachers' commitment to promoting the language standards of students of the Tourism College.

Doris's research interests include language learning motivation, learning strategies, curriculum design, discourse analysis, and tourism education. She has co-authored Communication Tasks for Tourism & Hospitality Education (1997) and English for Taxi-drivers (1999), a set of self-study bilingual English teaching tapes tailor-made for taxi-drivers in Macau.

She received her bachelor's degree in English from National Chengchi University in Taiwan and later obtained the master's degree at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle in the U.K. She began her academic career with the Institute For Tourism Studies where she has remained till today. She teaches Tourism Destination and Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality where her research focus lies. She is currently a PhD student at Nottingham Trent University, U.K. specializing in the field of cultural heritage tourism. Her research interests include cultural tourism, quality management and disabled travelers.

Tammy Ku has more than 12 years working in Aviation Industry. She has wide range of exposure in her aviation’s life at management position and experienced with Customer/ Passenger Services, Ground Operations Management, Cargo Operations Management, Quality Assurance, Licensing, Network Planning, Marketing and Sales. She has been trained by one of the leading Airlines in the world and has undergone different trainings from IATA. She is a certified IATA Dangerous Goods Instructor. Prior joining IFT, she was working in Conventions and Exhibitions Industry in Macau.

With Tammy Ku’s interface with the various sector of tourism industry, she enables to use industry examples to illustrate points to enhance participants’ knowledge.  Her research interest lies with the field of Aviation: Airlines Operations Management, Airlines Alliances and Airlines Organisation Infrastructure.

Kenneth graduated from the European University of Ireland with a Master's degree in Business Administration.

Having been serving in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years, he has accumulated his experience from being the Resident Manager at Beverly Plaza, while managing the Security Department before he joined
IFT. He identifies training as the foundation and an essential part of the development of the hotel industry, which led him to get involved with training sessions conducted directly among various hotels and the industry. Witnessing the eminent growth of the hotel industry has given him the incentive to join IFT in hopes to help foster excellent professionals for the industry.

Prior to joining the academia, Cindia has worked in the industry for more than 10 years, mainly as Accountant and Financial Controller of international corporations and the public utilities sector.

Cindia has taught in the Macau University of Science and Technology before joining IFT and during these years of teaching, she has taught courses on Financial and Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Finance, Financial Analysis, Financial Management and Business Communication.

During the past few years, she has completed various research in related with tourism and its’ affects, festivals and events, as well as supervised undergraduate students on their thesis.
